Jeff Arend Made The Switch From His standard blue Kragen Impala yellow “Madman Murray” car
Jun 14, 2007
Jeff Arend made the switch from his standard blue Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen Impala to the bright yellow “Madman Murray” car in Chicago, though he will run the blue CSK Chevy again next week in Englishtown, before he returns as a Madman driver in Norwalk. At that point, thanks to the non-stop summer schedule, some vinyl magic is going to have to occur to make the Murray’s car almost instantly transform into something different. Arend is scheduled to pilot the team’s annual Chevron Techron “special edition” car in Seattle and Sonoma, and although those late July dates may seem like a long way off, the upcoming travel rigors mean the swapping of vinyl has to be done post haste.
As soon as the Norwalk race is completed, the blue team will swing through Indianapolis to drop the body off at Square One Designs, before high-tailing it to Bristol. At the completion of the Bristol race, just days later, they will again make the side-trip to Indy to pick the body up again, and by then it will be completely wrapped as the Techron car. Square One will have the Impala body for roughly one week, but the July 4th holiday falls right in the middle of that time span, making the time crunch even tighter.
“It’s going to be a mad thrash, I suspect, but they’ll get it done, “ said co-crew chief Marc Denner. “It’s also going to add more than a few hundred miles of driving for our guys, but you have to do what you have to do. Right now, Seattle seems like a long way off, but we really don’t have more than a few more days to make this all happen. “
