Crew chief Dale Armstrong knew Jerry Toliver’s Friday night run wasn’t going to be a good one even before starting the engine at the Texas Motorplex starting line.
“When I went to start it, the motor didn’t turn over on the first magneto, but it did on the second one,” Armstrong said. “That meant it was only going to run on one magneto, which it did.” But it didn’t as quick as they hoped.
Toliver’s ROCKSTAR Energy Drink Toyota Solara did post a time of 4.911 seconds 311.41 mph, but it put him 15th going into Saturday’s final qualifying day for Sunday’s Fall Nationals.
“At least we go down the track,” said Toliver. “It’s imperative that we make two good runs Saturday, and I know we very capable of doing that.”
