Jerry Toliver and the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink Toyota Solar Funny Car team were working diligently Sunday in their Summit Motorsports Park pit area, preparing for the O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals, Friday through Sunday at Bristol (Tenn. ) Dragway.
They continue making progress in their quest for competitive elapsed times and starting positions in NHRA POWERade Series competition.
“We know what the problems are, ” said Toliver. “We need to make more power in certain areas of the track. ”
Just like putting together a competitive Funny Car team, the solutions take time to achieve. “We’re getting there, ” added Toliver. “Dale (Armstrong, team crew chief) and the guys have been getting closer with the tune-ups. We are looking forward to going to Bristol. ”
Toliver didn’t qualify for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Norwalk, but he did run his best elapsed time (4.893 seconds) in Friday night’s all-important qualifying session. As it turned out, that was two-hundredths of a second off the No. 16 time of 4.873 seconds.
The Bristol stop is the third in the team’s six races in six weeks.
