Jerry Toliver: “We gave it a shot. We are getting better”

Jerry Toliver gave Cruz Pedregon a serious challenge Sunday in the opening round of the O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at a hot Bristol Dragway.
Toliver put the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink Toyota Solara into the lead at the green light, leaving with a. 059-second starting light to Pedregon’s. 102.
“The car got out of the groove and moved over to the left and I was bringing it back and it dropped the No. 8 cylinder, and the car just shot to the right. It got out of the groove and started spinning the tires, ” said Toliver, of Temecula, Calif.
Pedregon went past, winning in 4.918 seconds at 302.5 mph to 4.988 at 303.43 mph.
“We gave it a shot, ” added Toliver. “We are getting better. We made the show and several good cars didn’t do that. ”
Toliver and the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink team will be back in action at Denver, Friday though Sunday. It’s the fourth event of six in a row and the beginning of NHRA’s traditional Western Swing that features stops at Denver, Seattle and Sonoma, Calif.
