For the first time since May 22, 2004, Tommy Johnson Jr. failed to qualify for Sunday’s final session, ending a near three-year streak of 66 consecutive races, longest on the NHRA Funny Car circuit.
Johnson Jr. and the SKOAL Racing Chevrolet Impala started the weekend out strong running in eighth place after Friday‘s first qualifying round. However, Johnson Jr. found himself playing catch-up after finishing the evening sitting in the 18th position. His final qualifying run on Saturday resulted in a 4.84, but was not fast enough to crack the top 16.
