“Obviously we are very disappointed as a team with our efforts this past weekend in Atlanta, ” said Johnson Jr. “We just have to put this performance behind us, move on and get ready for the O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals this coming weekend. ”
The final featured the top two qualifiers, Mike Ashley and Robert Hight. Ashley and Hight were side-by-side most of the way down the track until Ashley’s Dodge spun it’s tires around 1,000 feet. Hight crossed the finish line in 4.882 at 314.61 mph, winning the Funny Car Division at the 27th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.
