Not only will Justin Humphreys be starting Sunday’s O’Reilly Fall Nationals Sunday at Texas Motorplex, but the first-year NHRA Pro Stock driver will do so from the No. 5 position, a career best.
After struggling last week at Memphis, the driver of the RaceRedi Motorsports/Knoll-Gas Energy Motorsports Pontiac GTO came back with a 6.692-second run Friday night and it held up for fifth place during a hot day of qualifying Saturday.
“We struggled and Bob Glidden and the crew took the car apart last Sunday to find out why it wasn’t making consistent runs, ” said Humphreys. “They found several different things and now we seem to be going down the track. Anytime you can run good in the heat is a good run.
“Now we made four back-to-back runs here, (plus four while testing Monday). We are excited going into Sunday. We are definitely making progress. “
