NHRA: Kenny Koretsky Indicom Electric

Koretsky, the popular Pro Stock driver and business entrepreneur, isn’t fazed by the glitz of The Strip, whether it’s Las Vegas Boulevard or The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He will be visiting both this weekend during the ACDelco Nationals, Friday through Sunday, while his goal remains the same – winning at both sites. Koretsky has hit jackpots, but drag racing victories have treated him like he just rolled snake-eyes at a gaming table.

“I love racing at Las Vegas, ” he said. “It is one of my favorite cities. And the track that Bruton Smith built is one of the best we have on the NHRA tour. It would be exciting to win this race. ”

Exciting may be too mild a description. Koretsky, driving Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt, and crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia have been chasing their dreams for more than 25 years. And this is Las Vegas, where a little good fortune at the proper time can be rewarded. If the victory does arrive Sunday afternoon, this will not be one of those “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” moments.

“Eddie has done a good job preparing the car and (engine builder) Steve Schmidt is giving us good horsepower, we just need some racing luck, ” added Koretsky, who drove into the finals at Bristol, Tenn., in July. It was his second title-round appearance and first since 2004.

Koretsky put on an amazing display of quick reaction times to get three round wins and just missed that victory by two-thousandths of a second. His. 013-second reaction to Coughlin’s. 041 kept him in the lead until just before the finish line. Koretsky’s. 001-second reaction led to his upset of Greg Anderson, who was building a sizeable series points lead, in the first round and he added a. 006 to defeat current point leader Dave Connolly by four-thousandths of a second in the semifinals.

“We know we can go rounds on Sunday, ” said Koretsky. “We’ll be going for four in a row here. ”

He and the team have one more stop – the Auto Club Finals at Pomona,Calif., Nov. 1-4 – to reach his 2007 goal.
