Kenny Koretsky says he occasionally thinks about his last race at the Texas Motorplex two years ago.
That he can think about it all is the best part.
He will be making his first competitive appearance at the track since 2005, driving Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt in this weekend’s O’Reilly Fall Nationals.
Koretsky and Bruce Allen were injured in a horrific finish-line accident in Friday night qualifying that sent both drivers to the hospital. Koretsky returned to the driver’s seat this year at Hill’s request. Allen, meanwhile, retired from racing.
“I am looking forward to getting back to Dallas, ” said Koretsky. “I have a lot of friends there and that way I can put everything behind me. Dallas is the hometown of Motel 6, one of our sponsors.
“There’s not a race goes by that at least 15 to 20 people stop to tell me they saw the accident on TV and are happy to see me back racing . .. it’s pretty emotional. Right now I’m just focusing on going out and qualifying the car so I can do my thing on race day. ”
He failed to make the starting lineup last week at Memphis because the car veered to the right on its final three qualifying runs. Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia tested a new chassis setup Monday at Memphis and told Koretsky the car went straight on five runs.
“It was disappointing we didn’t qualify last week because we ran well the race before at Indianapolis. We won’t know what to expect here until after we make our first qualifying run Friday, ” Koretsky added. “The track conditions are different for testing and national events. ”
