As the 2007 NHRA POWERade Series season progresses, Kenny Koretsky finds his enthusiasm growing for the sport in which he has spent many years and many more dollars. A lot of that bright outlook has to do with success, too.

The businessman/entrepreneur from Richboro, Pa., is enjoying himself. Koretsky already has one runner-up finish (at Bristol, Tenn. ) – the second of his career – driving Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Chevy Cobalt. And he has eight more races to see if he can battle his way to a top 10 finish, something he’s done only once. He placed ninth in 2004.

“We are not involved in the Countdown to the Championship this year because our team is only 15 races old, and it takes time to get everything working smoothly, ” Koretsky said, “but we are getting better at every race. We have eight races left and we are focusing on winning a race, at least. Maybe we can win enough rounds to climb our way into the top 10. That would be good. ”

Koretsky resumes that chase in the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 10-12, an event that is special for Koretsky. “Brainerd was my comeback race last year, ” Koretsky said. “It was my first race back following my big crash (with Bruce Allen at Dallas in 2005).

“Eddie (Guarnaccia, team crew chief with Tomi Laine) has the car running well and I think we are due to win a race sometime soon. We’ll have three good Steve Schmidt motors ready to go. ”

After a slow start, Koretsky began turning things around four races ago at Bristol, Tenn. He stunned the Pro Stock field during eliminations by driving into the finals on the strength of brilliant reaction times. He upset point leader Greg Anderson in the opening round and beat Dave Connolly, No. 3 in points, in the semifinals, both with stellar starting line reactions.

He left first against Jeg Coughlin in the final, missing his first career victory by a few thousandths of a second.
