Kenny Koretsky: “We will be back . . . ready to go”

Monday morning couldn’t come fast enough for Greg Hill, Kenny Koretsky and the Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt team. The memories of last weekend’s SuperNationals at Englishtown, N.J., are to be quickly forgotten.

One of the few good things is there are only a handful of days before the beginning of the inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Norwalk, Ohio, June 29-July 1. This event marks the debut of NHRA competition a one of IHRA’ s premier facilities – until this year.

Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia and his cohorts don’t have log books with vital data on track and atmospheric conditions yet. They’ll all be learning at the same time.

After missing just one start in their first 10 NHRA POWERade Series events, Koretsky, Guarnaccia and Hill want to make sure they do a quick performance turnaround in time for the beginning of qualifying Friday at Norwalk.

Hill labeled the time spent in New Jersey a “lost weekend. The good thing is we learned from it, ” he said. “We made some mistakes. We made some chassis changes before our qualifying runs, but we found out those didn’t work. We hurt a motor and missed the tune-up on the replacement engine and then the weather and track got hotter and, as it turned out, we had absolutely the wrong setup in the car. ”

Optimism is high because the car had been running consistently good elapsed times. Competition for starting positions has been intense all year and Guarnaccia and Koretsky believe they will return to the top 16 this weekend.

“Eddie spent all of Sunday going over the entire car, ” said Koretsky, “ changing the suspension and putting everything back where it was when we were qualifying well. I was very disappointed we didn’t qualify because Raceway Park is one of my hometown tracks and it hurt that I wasn’t racing on Sunday. But we will be back . .. ready to go after some round wins at Norwalk. ”

Qualifying times for the Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish team are 4 and 7 p. m. Friday and noon and 2:30 p. m. on Saturday. Eliminations get underway at 11 a. m. Sunday.

LINGERING BACK problems will force Bill Windham, Koretsky’s teammate and driver of the Big O Tire Chevy Cobalt, to miss the Norwalk race. “My back has been hurting and I’ve been taking anti-inflammatory pills and doing physical therapy to take care of the pain, ” said Windham, who didn’t race at New Jersey, either. “I am trying to work it out so I can get back in the car in time for the Bristol race (July 8). ”

Kyle Koretsky Makes Super Comp Debut at Atco Raceway

Kenny Koretsky’s youngest son Kyle, 18, made his Super Comp driving debut Tuesday night at Atco (New Jersey) Raceway. Kyle, dubbed Kid Chaos after his dad’s Captain Chaos moniker, is driving a Super Comp car formerly owned by Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly and driven to an NHRA national event win by Connolly’s dad Ray at Joliet, Ill., earlier this month.
