Kurt Johnson completed a solid qualifying effort at the ProCare Rx Supernationals in Englishtown, NJ, with his 6.627, 208.71 mph effort in Saturday’s early session earning his ACDelco Cobalt the 11th position for Sunday’s final eliminations. Working to dial in their tune-up through the two-day procedure, Johnson and crew made progress on every attempt, culminating with the fifth quickest and fastest pass in the fourth and final session, a stout 6.629-second, 208.84 mph run in the heat of the afternoon that had them looking forward to race day.
“Overall, we’re pretty pleased with our qualifying effort. Our ACDelco Cobalt made four good runs starting with a 6.66, stepping up to a 6.63 last night and especially today, coming back with two 6.62’s, when the air was better but the track was a little hot. I believe we’re a top five car right now, and moving closer to the top every day, with a good shot at the trophy tomorrow.
“Having never won this race certainly adds some motivation, so we’re going to be pretty aggressive on race day. We’re certainly not going to cut any corners, trimming it as close as we can, because the competition is going to be pretty tight, and we’re pretty determined to get that New Jersey gorilla off our backs. ”
