Morgan Lucas enters the second race of the season, the 23rd annual Checkers Schuck’s Kragen Nationals, with a completely new outlook and a new co-crew chief with the addition of Lance Larson joining the team.

“We hired Lance Larson this week to join John Stewart and Richard Hogan with our race car preparation, ” said Lucas. “I’m interested and excited to see what is going to happen after this weekend and see where things go from there. I’m excited about running this race car and being competitive. We’re moving in the direction we need to go and working to make our car identical to Melanie Troxel’s car. It’s one of those things we have to do in taking the right steps in making the process happen. ”

The young and aggressive Lucas is placing hope with this new combination of tuners that will bring himself and teammate Troxel back into title contention.

“That’s what we’re doing is trying to turn our season around now, ” said Lucas. “There are no guarantees, but we’re making changes. That’s the most important thing is to make the changes we have to make to make this work. ”

Lucas made numerous runs in preseason testing at Firebird Raceway and although it was just half-track marches, the information gained was priceless.

“If the track is prepared anywhere near what we had in testing, we should be in good shape. Some track characteristics never change. We’re going into the race with a combination close to Troxel’s car and go from there. That’s all we can do. I have optimistic hopes for the weekend, that’s the biggest thing. ”

The start of the Checker Schucks Kragen Nationals begins at the Firebird Raceway on Friday, Feb. 23 with two qualifying session starting at 2:00 p. m. (MST) with a second session at 4:30 p. m. Saturday’s time trials start at 12:30 p. m. for the nitro classes followed by a second session at 3:00 p. m. The race starts promptly at 11 a. m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
