Melanie Troxel, driver of the Vietnam Veterans POW/MIA Top Fuel dragster, was defeated in the first round of eliminations at the 38th annual ProCare Rx SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
In her match up against Doug Herbert, Troxel lost traction around 300 feet out before seeing her opponent also having problems. She tried valiantly to overcome the deficit but it was too late and coasted to the finish line to record a time 7.576 seconds, 104.45 mph to Herbert’s 5.030 seconds, 279.96 mph.
She qualified in the No. 8 position on the competitive 16-car ladder with an elapsed time of 4.555 seconds at a near record speed of 332.43 mph
In the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings, she has now 488 markers and holds her own with a sixth place position in the standings despite the early exit after 10 of 23 races that have been completed on the premier drag racing circuit.
The next NHRA National event will be the inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Norwalk, Ohio on June 28 – July 1.
