The Vietnam Veterans MIA/POW Top Fuel team with Melanie Troxel at the helm did everything they could in attempting to defeat Whit Bazemore in the first round of eliminations at the O’Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
Troxel’s hope of making it back-to-back wins ended suddenly after coming home victorious at the last NHRA National event in St. Louis just weeks ago. Their very competitive run of 4.622 seconds, 313.73 mph, her quickest pass of the race weekend, just wasn’t swift enough to overcome Bazemore’s team as they recorded an elapsed time of 4.572 seconds, 320.20 mph.
Troxel was the No. 14 qualifier for the O’Reilly Summer Nationals with an elapsed time of 4.671 seconds, 296.37 mph.
In the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings, Troxel is now in sixth place with 423 points after the completion of eight of 23 races.
Up next for the Vietnam Veterans MIA/POW team will be their sponsor’s race, the 10th annual Torco Race Fuels Nationals at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. on June 8 – 10.
