Although Morgan Lucas qualified in the No. 12 position for the running of the seventh annual O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, he thought his destiny on Sunday would go more in his favor, but unfortunately he was defeated by Doug Kalitta in the opening round of eliminations.
Both drivers left the starting line pretty much even only to have Kalitta outdistance Lucas by the time they reached the finish line with a winning elapsed time 4.630 seconds, 324.20 mph to Morgan’s ET of 4.736 seconds, 311.41 mph.
Lucas moved up two spots in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings to 15th and has now has accumulated 298 points at the halfway point of the 2007 season.
Up next for the Lucas Oil Top Fuel Racing team will be the 28th annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway located nearby Denver, Colorado
