Morgan Lucas saw his hopes of capturing his first Top Fuel victory fall away at the O’Reilly Fall Nationals in a flash of red giving his opponent Brandon Bernstein a clear path to the win in their first round pairing at the Texas Motorsplex.
Lucas reacted too quick (-. 013) but ran a competitive 4.603 seconds, 323.27 mph elapsed time, while Bernstein motored to low ET of the race with his sound pass of 4.534 seconds, 323.89 mph.
He qualified in the No. 8 slot with an elapsed time of 4.581 seconds, 325.06 mph.
Lucas will remain in the 15 position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel standings and has amassed a total of 615 points after the completion of 20 of 23 NHRA National events.
Up next for the Lucas Oil team will be the second annual Torco Racing Fuel Nationals at the Virginia Motorsports Park in nearby Richmond on Oct. 5 -7.
