It is a grand time to be at Morgan Lucas Racing. The namesake driver of the family-owned flagship Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster, 23-year old Morgan, is so anxious to get to the 23rd annual Toyo Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway and it’s all about his recent upswing in performance causing a surge in energy and zest to win in the Lucas Oil team.

He posted a No. 6 qualifying position and a semi-final round appearance at last weekend’s Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd. After toiling in the early part of the season with unfortunate misgivings, Lucas’ star is now rising to the cause and his team has certainly done a complete turnaround in performance.

“It’s great to be having fun again, ” said a smiling Lucas. “To be running strong again puts everyone in frame of mind of feeling like a winner. Our steady progress has been coming for quite a while and it’s good to see not only my car running so well, but my teammate, Melanie Troxel’s dragster, too. We both made it to the semi-finals and our team couldn’t be any happier about that. We’re developing a great tune up and that credit goes to the crew and crew chiefs, Richard Hogan and John Stewart. ”

At Reading, he will again be doing double-duty driving in his Top Alcohol dragster in his campaign to win the championship title in the Lucas Oil Series, in addition to piloting his powerful Top Fueler. The Steve Boggs-led crew is on a run of some recent final round appearances taking the Division 7 LODRS event in Sonoma and a runner-up finish in Brainerd in the recent weeks.

“That’s what we’re here to do, ” said Lucas. “To go rounds and keeping adding better performances to add to that championship total. If we can’t win the Top Fuel championship, we’re going to do whatever it takes to win the Lucas Oil Championship.

“On the other hand in my Top Fuel car, we could be the spoiler in the Countdown the Championship and we’re so glad to have our car running so well. We feel we can go out there and qualify well and run hard on Sunday. We showed that last weekend in Brainerd. ”
