The frustration of working with a new clutch system that sometimes works like it has a mind of its own caught up with Cory McClenathan and the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Top Fuel team Sunday following his first-round finish in the O Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
Getting only two qualifying runs thanks to a Saturday rain storm, McClenathan had to start from the No. 16 position. He squared off against top qualifier Whit Bazemore when the event began after a three-hour rain delay. The car had traction trouble and McClenathan trailed Bazemore across the finish line – 4.559 seconds at 320.05 mph to 5.719 at 171.51.
