Cruz Pedregon, the 1992 NHRA Nitro Funny Car Champion and the Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car Team head to St. Louis and its famous Gateway Arch, symbolizing the Gateway to the West. Gateway International Raceway hosts the thunderous NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, the 7th of 23 powerhouse events, May 4-6, 2007.
Pedregon comes to St. Louis 10th in the hunt for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series World Championship and ready to start a win streak. Flash back to 1992. In his march for the NHRA Championship, Pedregon went on a 5-race National Event winning streak. At the end of the season, it was Cruz Pedregon receiving the title of NHRA Nitro Funny Car Champion.

The Midwest Nationals were previously held largely in the evening in late June to escape the summer heat. NHRA Drag Racing Series competitors should benefit greatly from the new early May race date, when cooler temperatures should add to the performance potential of the 7,000 horsepower Nitro Funny Cars.
