Native Australian Dave Grubnic, driver of the black and blue Zantrex-3 Top Fuel dragster, finds himself in a precarious place in the POWERade points as the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series heads west this weekend, May 4-6, to Madison, Ill., just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis, for the O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Int’l Raceway.
Grubnic and his Zantrex-3 team are currently in 8th place in championship points. What makes that position so important is the new Countdown to the Championship format that NHRA instituted for the 2007 racing season and beyond. Only the top eight points holders will be eligible to compete for the season championship after the first 17 national events.
