Rod Fuller, who earned his sixth career pole Saturday at Maple Grove Raceway, will have to wait a day to try and capture his sixth career Top Fuel win. Fuller won his opening-round race against teammate Whit Bazemore, but shortly thereafter the skies opened forcing NHRA officials to postpone the rest of final eliminations.
The Las Vegas racer was matched against his teammate for the fourth time this season. Last month, Fuller knocked off Bazemore in the final round at Denver in the first 1-2 finish for David Powers Motorsports. On Sunday morning, Bazemore used a slight starting line advantage, but Fuller used Rob Flynn horsepower to clock low elapsed time of the round, 4.526 seconds at 324.20 mph, to advance to round two. Bazemore drove the Matco Tools rail to a lap of 4.556 at 328.78. Fuller is now 4-0 against Bazemore.
“I wanna win the race, but I’m bummed that we can’t test at Indy, ” Fuller said. “It was a great match-up with Whit (Bazemore). Both cars put on a good show for the fans. The cars ran almost identical and that says a lot about these two David Power Motorsports teams. ”
