Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson stayed in the No. 12 qualifying position today at the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Even though he tried to get his Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS) Chevrolet Impala SS to improve, the weather and track conditions made it tough.
On his first pass, Wilkerson hazed the tires in the middle of the track and ran 5.083 at 236.75, which was one of the better runs of the session. On his second run Wilkerson again made one of the better passes of the session, this time improving to a 4.946 at 310.98 mph.
“The race track isn’t very good, ” explained Wilkerson, “and on our first run, we just smoked the tires in the middle. So, we knew we had to back it up a little for the second run. We were looking to go a little quicker but it wasn’t too bad for the heat of the day. Things are going well. The crew’s working good, the car’s working good, we’re not tearing anything up and it’s running good. We had fun with our LRS guests. We had a good day with nothing to complain about. “
For the second race in a row, Wilkerson will face off against Ron Capps in the first-round of action. Wilkerson is hoping the outcome will be in his favor this week.
“We’ve got to run Ron again, ” said Wilkerson. “One of these days we’re going to beat him, and hopefully it’s tomorrow. But they do such a great job; it will be tough. So, we’re just going to try to go down the track and see if we’re fortunate enough to get by him. If I do a good job and the car does a good job, I think we could win the race if we can just get past first-round. ”
