Tommy Johnson Jr. and the SKOAL Chevrolet Impala suffered their third consecutive first round elimination after falling to Jack Beckman at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Morrison, CO. Johnson had a cylinder out early and the engine started smoking at half track where he lifted. That enabled Beckman to pass Johnson easily, moving into the second round.
“It was a tough weekend on the mountain for the Skoal Racing team”, said Johnson. “Denver can be such a hard place to get your tune up right with the altitude here and we struggled finding it. With Cruz and Ashley Force not qualifying, we didn’t get hurt in the points standings but we need to make a move soon. I can’t wait to get back to sea level racing and get our cars performance back on track. “
Johnson will look to rebound this coming weekend when he and the SKOAL Racing team make their way to Seattle for the Schuck’s Auto Supply NHRA Nationals.
“I love coming to the Northwest to race every year”, said Johnson. “I got my first professional win her in 1993 so it will always have a special place in my heart. This being race number five of six in a row, I feel our team is one of the strong ones that can rise to the occasion when others are worn out from this hard tour. I would love nothing better to add a funny car trophy to my cabinet to go with my Top Fuel trophy from Seattle.”
