Fresh off a win in Phoenix and setting the national E. T. record, 2003 NHRA World Champion Tony Pedregon and his Q Power Nitro Funny Car Team head to Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla., on March 15-18 for the NHRA Gatornationals. This is the third of 23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events in 2007. Pedregon, a championship contender, is currently only 6 points out of first.

The traditional East Coast opener is one of the sport’s most revered with a rich tradition of history-making performances. This hallowed quarter-mile has entertained spring-break-loving fans for decades with such notable occasions as the first 260-mph Top Fuel and Funny Car runs in 1984 and the first 270-mph and 300-mph Top Fuel passes, in 1986 and 1992, respectively. Its 675-foot concrete launchpad is one of the longest on the tour.

“Gainesville has so much great history and I am looking forward to the race, ” stated Pedregon. “We won there in 2002 and grabbed the top spot in 2003. Now coming off a win in Phoenix and setting the E. T. record, I am looking forward to keeping the momentum moving forward. The whole Q Power team has worked extremely hard and we are seeing results, which leads to a confidence that we can win every race. ”

”Dickie (Venables, Crew Chief) and the entire team have done a great job preparing the car this year to not only qualify well, but make the proper adjustments in final eliminations. The 2007 race season will be as tough as ever, which is why every round win is so important towards the points championship. ”

How to Get to Gainesville Raceway: The track is on County Road 225, eight miles north of Gainesville Regional Airport. If traveling north on I-75, use Exit 382, Williston Road (SR 331), and turn left (east). Williston Road will become Waldo Road (State Route 24) after it crosses U. S. 441. Continue on Waldo Road to NE 53rd Avenue, turn left, then immediately right onto CR 225 and continue 3.5 miles to the racetrack. From I-75 north or south, use Exit 390, 39th Avenue (SR 222), go east to Waldo Road (SR 24), turn left, go to NE 53rd Avenue, turn left, then immediately right onto CR 225 and continue 3.5 miles to the track.

After conquering the Gatornationals, the NHRA warriors head to the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston (Tex. ), on March 30 – April 1, 2007.
