Tony Pedregon, the 2003 NHRA Nitro Funny Car Champion and his Q Horsepower team are heading for Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. for the NHRA Nationals, August 16-19, 2007, the 16th of 23 powerhouse events of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Only two races remain before the field is set for the Countdown to the Championship. Pedregon is now 4th in the Countdown and hopes to secure a spot in the top eight this weekend in Brainerd.
“Brainerd will be an important race for all of us as we get closer to the Countdown to the Championship, ” said Pedregon. “Our Q Horsepower team continues to get better as a team and we do well under pressure. I’m looking forward to a good weekend. ”
After a grueling six consecutive race weekend schedule which included the Western Swing, most NHRA teams welcomed a weekend off. However, for Pedregon and his Q Horsepower team it was racing as usual as they were invited to the Night Under Fire match race in Norwalk, Ohio last weekend. His intention was to use the event to prepare his Q Horsepower Funny Car and team for the pending Countdown to the Championship. When the dust and smoke had settled in Norwalk, Pedregon was in the Winner’s Circle holding the trophy and with high hopes of another trip to the Winner’s Circle in Brainerd this weekend.
“The Night Under Fire event was a great opportunity to improve the performance and consistency of the car, ” said Pedregon. “After going out in the first round in Sonoma, we really wanted to use this weekend to regain the consistency we need to compete for the championship. We took advantage, while other teams rested, to continue to work hard to improve our performance. We made good progress this weekend. ”
