Troy Coughlin is thrilled to get his JEGS.com Pontiac GTO Pro Modified racecar back in competition at this weekend’s 38th annual ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals presented by R2B2 Motors. Coughlin has used the last two months to test and refine his unique twin-turbo set-up and feels as though his crew’s hard work over the last 60 days is about to pay off.

“This is brand new technology and it just flat-out takes time to refine what you’re doing with it,” Coughlin said. “It’s exciting when this car shows us little glimpses of what it’s capable of doing. I’m convinced this thing is going to turn heads when we get it running consistently. We’ve just needed time to sort it all out and we will continue to need more time.”

Coughlin made it clear at the start of his first year of Pro Mod competition that he wouldn’t race unless his car was competitive and capable of qualifying for races and winning rounds on Sunday. As such, he skipped the last AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge event in St. Louis.

“It’s important for us to contend,” Coughlin said. “In this class, that means you need to run 6.1-second passes at 240 mph every time out. That will put you in the pack and then you can go racing.

“I’ll be extremely pleased this weekend if we stay within ourselves and get this car down the track every time. I firmly believe we can qualify and when that happens then I know this group of guys will give me a car on raceday that can win.”

The first two rounds of Pro Mod qualifying are scheduled for 3:15 and 6 p. m. Friday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
