Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team worked on their race day throughout qualifying, using each of their four attempts at the ProCare RX Supernationals to adapt their 1,400-horsepower machine to the challenging racing surface at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
Although pleased that his best effort of 6.643-seconds, 208.71 mph was strong enough to guarantee his participation in Sunday’s final eliminations, The Professor was far from satisfied and heads into race day determined to step up his performance even further, making the most of his uncharacteristic 15th starting spot.
“Although all four runs were certainly competitive, they were not as quick as we’d like them to be, which, after all, is the purpose of this exercise. We know we have some work to do, so we’ll make some relatively educated guesses as to what this GM Performance Parts GTO needs for tomorrow, based on the forecast for slightly warmer temperatures, which will affect two factors.
“Not only will the track be hotter, giving us less traction, but our normally aspirated engines will also have less power in the heat. As a result, we’ll have two areas in which we have to compensate as best as we can. If we can make up for the lack of power and maximize the traction available, we could be in good shape. ”
