Wilkerson Wants To Continue What He Started In Pomona

Phoenix, Prerace
Feb 19, 2007

No one knows what to expect at the season opener of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series.  After a few months off, it sometimes takes a while for everyone to get back into the swing of things.  But that wasn’t the case for Tim Wilkerson.  The Springfield, Ill. Funny Car favorite had his Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS) Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the best shape that it’s been in for a very long time, showing world’s of promise and potential.

“I’m optimistic for what we are going to see out of our LRS Funny Car,” Wilkerson said.  “When I look at our data, it shows me that the car has great drive shaft speed and several other elements that are very important.  Now, as long as we can get them all to work together at the same time at the right place, it should all be good for this year.”

Wilkerson is coming off a very strong showing at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals in Pomona.  Each of his qualifying passes were 4-second runs, with the last one being a career-best 4.723.  And as Wilkerson rolls into Firebird International Raceway for the upcoming Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals, he sits tied for the ninth spot in the NHRA Championship point chase.

“The pressure is on us for Phoenix,” said Wilkerson.  “We want to continue to grow our performance and if we want to be taken serious this year, we need to continue what we started in Pomona.  And we’re going to have a ton of LRS guests all weekend, and we certainly want to show them what our car can do and give them a weekend to remember.”
