In Saturday qualifying, Dave Hedges and Mick Snyder grabbed the top spots for this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event as over 430 drag racers participated at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP). Hedges, of Plainwell, Mich., blasted his Top Alcohol Dragster to an ET of 5.529 seconds at 260.21 mph. Local racer, Lindsey Wood of McAlpin, Fla. firmed up the second spot on the grid with a 5.536 second, 243.28 mph pass. Woods currently leads the Southeast Division Top Alcohol Dragster point’s battle.
Snyder out of Demotte, Ind., who also won the Eastern Spring Test Nationals at SGMP in March clocked in at 5.830 seconds, 238.60 mph in this 2002 Firebird Top Alcohol Funny Car for the number one position. Only. 009 of a second behind, Norcross, Ga., racer Mark Billington jumped to the No. 2 spot with a 5.839 second, 247.07 mph pass.
In Top Dragster, Glen Treadwell of Sorrento, Fla., took the No. 1 spot with a run of 7.960 seconds at 165.68 mph. Robert Davis drove his ‘63 Corvette to the top of the field in Top Sportsman with an ET of 6.743 seconds at 209.88 mph.
The high winds on Sunday forced NHRA and SGMP officials to postpone the scheduled eliminations for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The event has been rescheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 11 & 12. Qualifying has been completed and the fields are locked for all classes.
