How was your last race of the 2007 at Hockenheim?
“We had problems since qualifying, and we couldn’t manage to solve them. We were really slow, nearly 2 seconds off the pace. I did my best to recover on Race 1, moving from 17th to 12th, but I was always locked at the same pace. I tried to focus on getting the best possible results without making mistakes, since we just couldn’t do nothing to solve things in time. “
If we have a look at your season, we see highs and lows, how do you feel about it?
“This season was definitely under my expectations, as well as everyone else’s. I had good highlights starting with Sebastian Buemi’s absence at Zolder and in the following two races, even when he got back. We did good at the Nurburgring and at Barcelona, where unfortunately I committed a rookie mistake at the start of Race 2. I was already prepared to travel across Europe by the F. Renault 2.0 Eurocup, while I had some more difficulties with the general environment. I had to adapt to the team’s racing vision and change my approach a bit: it was even tougher due to the huge language barrier between Italian and German. “
What do you think you have learned from your F. 3 Season?
“I think that the Formula 3 Euro Series is one of the most formative championships around. The level is extremely high, both in terms of drivers and teams. That teaches you how to fight even for a tenth of a second. The cars are tough to tame, you have to brake late and carry a lot of speed in the corner; you have to learn how to manage aerodynamic effects. I think that if you’re fast in a F. 3 car you can be fast everywhere else. “
How did you deal with the high-profile Master’s field?
“In the end, I had the chance to know nearly all of my rivals in F. Renault. Despite the slightly different field, all the Euro Series drivers emerged at Zolder, thanks to the better knowledge of Kumho tires and to the generally higher level of their teams. “
What would you like to do next season? Do you have any news?
“I’m waiting for a response by Red Bull, that should come soon. I might use this year’s experience for another season in the F. 3 Euro Series, or even try to make another step forward. I think I’d be ready also for the World Series Renault, maybe not for the GP2 Series, since I need more experience and physical training. I’m surely going to treasure what I learned from my good results and mistakes, trying to be strong since the beginning. I think that with a good car, everything will come naturally.
