World Series Renault: Fifteen Points Now Separate Ben Hanley From World Series Renault Championship Leader Parente Team Prema

World Series - Magny-Cours Round #7 - Sunday Report

The second race of the World Series Renault at Magny-Cours was quite unlucky for the Team Prema. After Ben Hanley’s superb victory under the rain in Race 1, this time the Brit was penalized with 25” for causing an avoidable incident between himself and Milos Pavlovic. Hanley had concluded the race in 7th position after starting from tenth on the grid due to the reversed grid system for the first ten classified drivers of race 1. Consequently his 7th position was transformed in fourteenth and therefore with no points. What a disappointment, as the gap between him and the Championship leader Parente rises from 11 to 15 points. Hanley is nevertheless still second in the Championship standings. There are still two meetings left before the end of the season with a total of 4 races which still maintains the Championship very open. Xavier Maassen’s race was cut short as he went off track during the seventh lap.

René Rosin - Team Manager:

“We acknowledge the stewards decision of penalizing Ben Hanley and depriving him from his seventh position and from 4 important points for the Championship. His move wasn’t considered as a normal race incident as we thought. This is not an issue, we will look forward to getting back these points on track, in one month, at Estoril, at our rival’s home track. Another disappointing race for Xavier Maassen who finished his race in the gravel. “
