2007 Visma Formula Palmer Audi championship leader Luciano Bacheta will start tomorrow’s sixth round of the season at Snetterton from pole position, having come out on top of a competitive first qualifying session of the weekend.

The 17-year-old youngster took his Tradelink-backed car to a fastest time of 1 minute 5.565 seconds around the 1.95-mile Norfolk circuit with four minutes of the session remaining. Tim Bridgman will line up alongside him on the front row, setting a time just seven-hundredths of a second slower in his Laser Skoda machine, with Alex Brundle securing his best grid slot of the season so far, taking third in the THB Clowes car at his home circuit.

“I wasn’t sure I’d get pole today after being a bit shaky in the test yesterday, ” said Bacheta. “I tried to get a decent tow, but the amount of traffic out there made it really difficult, but to have pole position here is great. “
