Last Saturday night (March 24) was meant to be a big night of racing for both Simon Amato in the final round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series at Warrnambool s Sungold Stadium-Premier Speedway and Kate Searle in Round 6 of the Russell Hayden Scaffold Hire Formula 500 Stampede Series at Hamilton s Western Speedway, but it turned pear shaped for both parties.
Simon Amato and the rest of the Sprintcar team were due to make their return to racing in Victoria down at Sungold Stadium, however the ABC Realestate Racing truck only went as far as Geelong before it hit troubles.
The goose neck of the trailer developed fractures in the main towing beam on the way to Warrnambool and when it was discovered at Geelong, the team had little choice but to head back to their Diggers Rest base rather than make the two hour journey down the Princes Highway to Warrnambool.
While the Sprintcar boys realised their night was over, the Formula 500 team consisting of Kate Searle and her mum Mandy were looking for a successful night at the fast Hamilton Speedway.
