The second half of the season is in full swing and Cameron Motorsports driver Mike Vincec has garnered three wins out of five races in the past two weeks. Vincec would come to victory in both Formula Senior (ICC) and Rotax DD2 at the most recent Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) event and then go on to win the final race of the Snap On Stars of Karting (Stars) east division event. He is now set to defend his 2006 Canadian National Championship in Formula Senior this coming weekend (Aug 10-12) at Cameron Motorsports Park - his home track.
“The season is starting to wrap up nicely for us”, offered Vincec during a recent interview. “We are pretty solid in the SRFKC series but we still looking for a win at Stars. We are very happy to have achieved that goal this past weekend. We now have some business to take care of at the ASN Canada National Karting Championships. “
In the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Mike currently leads all three classes in which he is entered. Undefeated over four races in Rotax DD2, he has three wins and one second in Formula Senior. A hard-earned fifth-place finish in Senior Rotax vaulted him into the points lead for this class. There are two rounds left in this series.
The Snap On Stars of Karting series has presented a constant challenge for Mike and the Cameron Motorsports crew with large entry lists and stiff competition. Throughout the season Mike has been near the top of the charts but the series’ 2006 Rookie of The Year wanted that elusive top step of the podium. It was looking good for the first race this past weekend but after another kart ran over his air-box, Mike suffered a technical DQ and would have to start the final from 31st position. Putting on quite a show, Mike fought back in the final going from last to seventh place. He would earn enough points to keep his P3 standing in the division championship.
Sunday would go much better and starting from the second row, Vincec exhibited great patience and timed his move to the front. He would come home with the win and maintain a solid third place in the series. There is one race left in the series, a combined East-West national championship event taking place during November in Las Vegas.
Next up are the ASN Canadian Nationals. Mike is the reigning Formula Senior Champion and he is looking to defend that title in his Cameron Motorsprts CRG/Swedetech. He will also be contesting in both Senior Rotax and Rotax DD2 classes in an attempt to join the Canadian National Team and the opportunity to compete in the 8th ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINALS. The Grand Finals take place in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, November 26 through December 1, 2007.
