The preview for this weekend was correct. Prema left Vallelunga, the second round of the F. Renault 2.0 Italian Championship with a strengthened hold on the series. With Henki Waldschmidt claiming a third and second spot. The driver, part of the Toyota Driver Program has a strong lead in the championship with 126 points. Prema’s satisfaction is doubled by the fact that Martin Plowman came away from the weekend in second spot. The British driver now on 76 points. At Vallelunga, Plowman drove outstandingly throughout the two races to claim 7th and 8th place finishes despite starting 11th and 13th respectively.
Even Andrea Calderelli had noticeably improved from the previous outing. 7th in Qualifying which he converted into 7th in the race, he was the victim of a chain of events at the start of race 2, he was hit after only a few hundred metres with his rear tyre entangling with a competitor, laun ching Andrea into a terrifying mid-air multiple barrel roll. Luckily he emerged unscathed, his car was seriously damaged, but it resisted well to such a huge impact.
Grazia Troncon:
“It was a very interesting and positive weekend for Prema. We claimed a double podium with Waldschmidt who demonstrated to be one of the strongest drivers in the category, and is now in a strong position in the championship. Plowman was also very good, now second in the driver’s championship. A good weekend also for Andrea, but it was a shame for his accident in race 2 which left us very worried, but luckily everything ended well. “
