In an effort to help curb illegal street racing, Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage has joined forces with Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief, and the two parties will help launch a street-legal drag racing program next week at the 1.5-mile speedway in Fort Worth.
Billed as the Scion Drag-N-Brag program, the event will provide a safe environment for potential street racers, and it will give them an opportunity to compete at a world-class venue that annually hosts the premier racers from the NASCAR and IndyCar Series.
Beginning July 3 and concluding Aug. 7, Texas Motor Speedway will transform its pit lane into a 1/8-mile drag strip.
Each Friday night during the six-week period the Scion Drag-N-Brag will provide motorsports enthusiasts a chance to burn a little rubber, but in a much safer manner.
TMS officials said the Scion Drag-N-Brag will feature racing in four different classes and the track will crown a season champion at the August finale.
The points leaders in each division following the Aug. 7 finale will be crowned champions. Weekly division winners also will be awarded trophies.
