Viktor Sinzig, resident of Cupertino, CA had a year of a lifetime to close his first season as a race car driver and winning the 2007 Formula Ford Championship Series title.
Heading into the weekend with a points lead Viktor needed to finish the race to seal up the title. Some bad luck would fall on the teenager on the first lap of the qualifying session, when he was hit by a driver coming into turn 11 causing him to get airborne. Sinzig pulled it together. With the right lower A- arm bent from the contact Viktor continued the qualifying session. “That cost us track time and put us 3rd for the main event. ” The team was able to straighten the A-arm and aligned the car for the main event.
When the green flag dropped, Sinzig blasted off the line into the 2nd position right off the start. He held 2nd position until the full course caution, when the car started to misfire in the high RPM’s. “Because of my previous experience with the car misfiring I knew that I had to take it easy and not put stress on the motor to minimize chances of getting a DNF by driving in a conservative mode in order to secure the championship”.
Viktor was passed on the straightaway and stayed 3rd for the rest of the race, finishing just as he started and taking home the championship honors.
19- year- old Viktor Sinzig happily admits that he is a young man in a hurry looking to make up for the lost time, possessed by various all consuming apetitite for motorsports.
“The SCCA FF championship means a lot to me. In the beginning of the year I set the championship as a goal. Mission accomplished!
I would like to thank my parents and friends for their support during the 2007 racing season, Palo Alto German Cars, Neil Porter, Peter Nosler and the team. I also want to thank Ron Sutton. I am so great full for this opportunity. ”
