Genoa Racing drivers Adrian Carrio and Richard Heistand are geared up for the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe’s Outdoor Sports and More this weekend (June 8-10) for a double-header event that kicks off the remainder of the Champ Car Atlantic season.
During the lengthy break from racing, both drivers took part in two very productive tests; one at Gingerman Raceway in Michigan, and one at Kershaw in South Carolina. The Genoa Racing Team was able to test in a variety of conditions all in preparation for the upcoming races. They spent a majority of the time focusing on car balance in anticipation of Portland’s long radius turns, and working with the drivers as they make the transition to the first true road course on this year’s schedule.

“The progression that we have made during the off-time this past month is very promising. We have put in a lot of time testing and we have gained a lot from this. I believe that after these two tests, we have a good chance of finishing in the top ten at Portland, and I am encouraged by our development. Working with the team has been a great experience, and the kind of improvement we have achieved is the kind of thing that is indicative of a Championship winning team. ”

“Since my program with the team came together later than we had hoped, I missed most of the pre-season testing, so it was really nice to work with my engineer and focus on our communication with one another. I don’t have nearly as much experience as my competitors, so I’m playing a bit of catch-up. We are looking forward to the race at Portland, and I feel confident that we will continue to improve as the season progresses. ”
Thomas Knapp, Team Manager
“Genoa Racing’s program of testing in May was very productive from a couple of standpoints. First, it improved the communication between the drivers and their respective engineers. Second, it allowed the engineers’ to explore the complete range of set-up options for the first time, given the exclusive nature of the testing. Finally we expect stronger performances from the drivers for the balance of the season, as a result of this additional mileage. ”
