The Lexmark Indy 300, to be held on Queensland’s Gold Coast from October 18-21, will have a presence during Australian drag racing’s pinnacle event, the 40th Castrol EDGE Winternationals this weekend at Willowbank Raceway near Ipswich.

In a bold move, the cross promotional opportunity will allow the country’s most famous of International street circuit racing events to be exposed to fans at the biggest quarter mile extravaganza held outside of North America.

During three days and nights of top class drag racing at the Winternationals, Willowbank officials expect a total crowd figure in excess of 40 000 people.

For the promoters of the Lexmark Indy 300 that means an opportunity to market the Gold Coast feature event to a captive motorsport audience and remind everyone that tickets are now on sale for one of the biggest entertainment spectacles in the country.

The Lexmark Indy 300 is headlined by a round of the Champ Car World Series and a round of the highly popular Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series.

This weekend also marks the restart of the Champ Car World Series, following a six week lay off, during the Grand Prix of Portland, while round five of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be contested at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway.

“The Lexmark Indy 300 and Castrol EDGE Winternationals are two major heavyweights in Australian motorsport and it seems only natural that we should be working together to ensure maximum returns for each of our events, ” said Lexmark Indy 300 Marketing Manager Greg Price.

“As an added attraction during the Winternationals we’ll have the Champ Car display vehicle on show and numerous volunteers on hand to chat about ways in which individuals can become an active part of Queensland’s premier event.

“We are continually looking at new and improved ways of activating interest in the Lexmark Indy 300 and are keen to see how the promoters of the Ipswich facility go about coordinating their annual major feature. ”

The link between the Lexmark Indy 300 and the Winternationals runs much deeper than what most people would understand.

Long time fans of drag racing would know that the Winternationals concept was in fact initiated on the Gold Coast, at the one-time hub of Queensland motorsport, the former Surfers Paradise International Raceway.

Just as the popularity of the Winternationals has stood the test of time, so too does the Lexmark Indy 300 continue to build and maintain on its remarkable reputation.

The Lexmark Indy 300 is regarded as one of the ‘crown jewel’ motorsport events worldwide and one of the most popular sporting and entertainment events in Australia each year.

Not unlike the way the Winternationals has been able to create a massive influx of visitors to Ipswich over the Queen’s birthday weekend, the Lexmark Indy 300 has also developed a peak period for Queensland’s tourism industry injecting more than $60 million into the local economy.
