Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca To Host Community Open House

Those waiting for the perfect opportunity to visit Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will have no better chance than Saturday, March 10, when the world-renowned track is inviting the local community to climb “over the hill” for a community open house. The event will wave the green flag on the 50th Anniversary Season of the world class facility with free admission.

On-track, the Champ Car World Series returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a test session open to all teams and drivers competing during the season.

Off-track, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca fans will experience autograph sessions, a fan forum featuring movers and shakers from Champ Car and exhibits featuring activities from around Monterey County including car displays, wine tasting booths, and a tribute to 1957. The day will conclude with a Sock Hop from 6:00 – 8:00 p. m. in the Red Bull Energy Center.

The test session, which begins March 7 and 8 with the Champ Car Atlantic Series and continues March 9 and 10 with the Champ Car World Series, is open to all Champ Car and Champ Car Atlantic teams. It will provide fans with one of the few opportunities to see the new DP01 Champ Car chassis prior to the series’ first race of the season in the streets of Las Vegas.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was built in 1957 and has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP). SCRAMP is a not-for-profit corporation that donates net proceeds from each race season to the volunteer organizations that help put on the events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Last season alone, SCRAMP donated over $200,000 to local charities and civic organizations.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2007 with a world-class racing schedule including the U. S. Sports Car Invitational featuring the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series May 18-20, the Red Bull U. S. Grand Prix July 20-22, the 34th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Toyota August 17-19, the AMA Superbike Championship September 15-16 and the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series October 19-21.
