THREE-time Indycar series champion Sebastien Bourdais yesterday walked away from a high-speed crash during a racing promotion on the Gold Coast.
The Frenchman, who hopes to become the first person in the history of the Champ series to win four consecutive world titles, flipped a high-performance Subaru WRX on to its roof during a test drive at Pimpama’s motor racing centre.
The crash could have derailed Bourdais’ bid to wrap up the title in Sunday’s big race.
But despite the spectacular crash, Bourdais was helped out of the car and emerged from the incident unhurt.
“I’m fine,” he said.
Bourdais, who has a reputation for a fiery personality, did not stop to answer questions from Channel 7 cameras at the track and stormed off. News.com
The Subaru Impreza WRX rally car driven by Bourdais with instructor Simon Elliott in the passenger seat ended up on its roof after a low speed roll over.
``The car just dug in and then it rolled over, in slow motion,’’ a slightly embarrassed Bourdais said.
``I am fine, there is nothing wrong with me, but I just felt sorry and concerned for Simon and the whole centre here.’’
Bourdais, who arrived on the Gold Coast early this morning, has the chance to cement his fourth straight Champ Car title when he races on Sunday. ChampCarFanatics.com
