Team Australia rookie Simon Pagenaud has had a sensational debut day in the Champ Car World Series by driving to second fastest in opening qualifying for the Vegas Grand Prix in Las Vegas, Nevada today.
Pagenaud was only two tenths of a second behind former series champion Paul Tracy, making it a dream start to the season for the reigning Champ Car Atlantic Champion in the #5 Aussie Vineyards Team Australia DP01.
Pagenaud s team-mate Will Power was seventh fastest in the #5 Aussie Vineyards Team Australia DP01 in opening qualifying, looking for improvement in tomorrow s second qualifying session.
Power encountered brake issues early in the day and then a brush with the wall resulted in damage to the Australian s car, preventing him from rejoining qualifying to improve his best lap time.
