After a character-building 2006 season, Canadian veteran Paul Tracy came out swinging on the first day of the 2007 season as the winningest active Champ Car driver secured Provisional Pole on the streets of Sin City with a dominant effort on the soft alternate Bridgestone “Reds”. Driving in his adopted home town, Tracy became the first driver to set an official fastest lap in the new DP01 chassis and secured the first Championship point of the season along with a guaranteed front-row starting spot for Sunday s Vegas Grand Prix.
Teammate Mario Dominguez, who joined the Forsythe team just last week, encountered an electrical problem during the afternoon practice session prior to Qualifying after also losing much valuable track time to Red Flags in the morning session. With no preseason testing in the Telmex/Cabi Developers #7 DP01, Dominguez found himself still working to learn the track and the car in a frustrating Qualifying session.
