Paul Tracy and the Forsythe Team proved today that they will be a force to be reckoned with during the 2007 Champ Car World Series Season by finishing third at the inaugural Vegas Grand Prix. Mario Dominguez encountered problems all throughout the race but still managed to salvage a top ten result in his #7 Telmex/Cabi Developers DP01 Champ Car.
Starting from the front row, Tracy took the lead when the green flag dropped and held it for nine laps until Will Power managed to squeeze through at the braking zone for Turn 1. Tracy was able to follow comfortably and proceeded to conserve tires and fuel until lap 28 when he made his first pit stop. During the pit stop a problem with the fueling system (in the car) prevented the team from filling up the tank; Tracy left the pits with enough fuel for only four laps. The 2003 Champion had to make an extra pit stop in order to fill the tank, dropping him to ninth. For the rest of the race he kept a very strong pace including setting the second quickest lap of the race (1m20.427s) and managed to fight his way back to third at the finish. Tracy currently sits third in the Championship standings with 27 points.
Mexican Mario Dominguez and the #7 Forsythe crew had a difficult and busy day (at) on the streets of Downtown Las Vegas. The problems started on lap 24 when Dominguez had to make an unscheduled pit stop to repair a problem with in the right rear suspension of his DP01 Champ Car. After the repairs were complete he found himself several laps down but still running as quick as the leaders. On lap 48 he had to once again make an unscheduled pit stop but this time the problem was a strong vibration in the front wing. The Forsythe Team quickly replaced the wing and sent Dominguez back on his way. Despite the numerous problems the Mexican veteran still managed to salvage a ninth place finish and ninth in the Championship standings with 13 points.
