The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and Gumball 3000 have joined forces to present an action packed weekend of motorsport. The excitement offered to fans over the A1GP Brands Hatch weekend (27-29 April) will see single-seater racing combined with international rallying - the Gumball 3000 entrants visiting the final round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and an A1 Team Ireland A1GP car taking part in the start of the Gumball in central London.
A1GP, the only open-wheel motorsport series to pitch nation against nation on a level playing field, will hold its season finale at the world-famous Brands Hatch circuit. The much anticipated race weekend is the 11th in the season, with the ten previous events taking the series to nine different countries over the past seven months. The three-day event will see two official practice sessions on Friday, practice and qualifying on Saturday and the Sprint and Feature races throughout the day on Sunday.
Attracted by the concept of joining nations through motorsport, the Gumball 3000 will visit the Kent track on Saturday 28 April where five of its top cars will take to the track before they leave for the rally the following day, returning one week later having driven to Asia and back through 17 countries.
The entry grid for the infamous rally includes some of the world’s most exclusive supercars and custom vehicles, some of which will be on display throughout the day at Brands Hatch. The drivers, which include celebrities such as Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay, MTV’s Pimp My Ride host Xzibit, Football Factory’s Danny Dyer, supermodel Jodie Kidd, The Transporter’s action hero Jason Statham to Star Wars legend Hayden Christianson, will have the opportunity to pick up some last minute driving tips from the A1GP professionals.
As the 120 cars depart from London’s Pall Mall on Sunday 29 April, a car in A1 Team Ireland colours will be among the pack with TV-show Fifth Gear’s Jason Plato behind the wheel. Fellow presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson has already had the opportunity to pick up some tips for her fellow presenter as she took the A1 Team Ireland car for a spin at RAF Cottesmore last week.
A surprise celebrity will be part of the starting ceremony for the A1GP Feature race at Brands Hatch at 15.00. This celebrity will have a busy day as, once the A1GP cars are racing, he will be helicoptered back to London to wave off the Gumball 3000. Each start will be broadcast live at each venue thanks to A1GP’s UK host broadcaster Sky Sports.
