Alexander Sims successfully defended his title in the second annual Renault Sport charity Duathlon. The event, which on the day raised £250 towards the target of £500 for the North West Air Ambulance and Barnardo’s, took place at Oulton Park on Friday, 25th July. Sims, who races for Manor Competition in the Formula Renault UK Championship, completed the three-lap course consisting of one cycling, one running and one cycling, in just over 27 minutes.
Renault Championship Manager Simon North was second, while Formula Renault UK driver Josh Scottwas third. Ginetta Junior racer Simon Austin joined Formula Renault UK’s Dean Stoneman as the other drivers to take part, while Renault Race Centre staff, Apotex Scorpio Motorsport mechanic Steve Lynchand Clerk of the Course Pete Roberts, who ran all three laps, also took part.
Sims wasted little time in asserting his advantage on the first leg, completing a lap of the undulating Cheshire circuit in just 5 min 35s, an average speed of around 25 mph. North was second with Renault Technical Manager Allen Collen in third ahead of Scott. A superb run by the Australian Scott pushed him up to third place at the end of the second leg.There was no catching Sims as he slowed only slightly on the last lap to win comfortably ahead of North. Scott took third, despite using a bike designed for down hill mountain biking and only having one gear. Craig Davies, from Renault Race Centre team Elliott McDougall, just pipped team-mate Allen Edwards on the line for fourth and fifth. North, Collenand Media Officer Simon Murphy won the team prize ahead of Team EMcD’s Davies, Edwards and Stuart Cross.
