After a fourth place finish in the inaugural A1GP at Zandvoort last year A1 Team Netherlands is setteling for nothing less than victory during their home race on the seaside track. A bold goal perhaps, but certainly not out of reach considering the current strength of A1 Team Netherlands.
During the sell out premiere last year A1 Team Netherlands led the race for a long time, but had to settle for a spot just outside the podium. Already then Jeroen Bleekemolen showed that with an A1GP car at Zandvoort, at that time without any preparation, he was clearly amongst the favorites. This year Bleekemolen, together with Rookie and reserve driver Arie Luyendyk jr. and the rest of the team has prepared himself very well for the third A1GP season. During the pre season tests at Silverstone A1 Team Netherlands showed it’s pace.
A1 Team Netherlands team principal Jan Lammers is very much looking forward to start the third A1GP season and of course hopes to get off to a flying start in the home race. “We are anxiously and with confidence awaiting the new season. Naturally we want to deliver the first blow at Zandvoort, if we succeed in transferring our enthusiasm and confidence in a good result. We are able to win, so that is what we will should do. Tough talk perhaps, but my trust is a result of the progress I see with Jeroen, he is truly on of the best drivers I have ever worked with and there were quite many. That’s also why he is the ideal coach for Arie jr. Our technical staff is also very good so all ingredients are there. When you look at the ticket sales, the public has again reacted with enthusiasm. So come and visit the orange party at Zandvoort and we won’t let you down! ”
Jeroen Bleekemolen did recieve so many enthusiastic encouragements over the past weeks that he wants nothing less than showing his gratitude with a nice victory; “We are back at Zandvoort again with A1GP. I have got awesome memories of last year, it looked like Queens Day again. Everyone wearing orange and going wild. I hope that we will have the same atmosphere along the track this time. On track we will have to try and do the thing we almost did last year, namely winning. We have been able to do a lot of work during the test and I am convinced that the team is ready for it. It will be an interesting weekend, with the new regulations which we will encounter for the first time.
Arie Luyendyk jr. will, despite the absence of a Rookie session at Zandvoort, go out on track. The A1 Team Netherlands Rookie, who of course is also confident about a good result can hardly wait; can’t wait to experience the A1GP race at Zandvoort, this will be my first A1GP event and after seeing the atmosphere on t. v. last year I believe it is going to be an amazing weekend. We have been very strong in testing and I am confident that Jeroen will be battling for a win. Unfortunately there will be no “rookie session” during the event but I am really excited for the opportunity to give two demonstration runs for our dutch fans. “
There was a victory for Jeroen Bleekemolen already at the start of A1GP in Zandvoort. At the PR event today at Wijk aan Zee he beat Khalil Beschir of Lebanon in the Blokart race on the beach.
