Robbie Kerr produced a strong performance in Brno today to set the 3rd fastest time in qualifying for both the Sprint and Feature races. The 28 year old from Leicestershire was much happier with his A1 Team GBR’s performance following overnight changes to set-up. This morning’s practice session was used to bed in brakes and adjust the set-up ahead of qualifying, giving both the team and driver reasonable confidence that qualifying would go well.
In the first two qualifying segments Robbie was immediately competitive, achieving a best time of 1m 45.163s to line up 3rd on the grid for tomorrow’s Sprint Race. Only South Africa and New Zealand were faster. The second part of qualifying, which counts for the Feature Race, saw Robbie improve on his time, setting a 1m 44.927s; again sufficient for 3rd place on the grid, this time behind Netherlands and South Africa.
Today’s strong performance from A1 Team GBR underlines its consistent challenge inthe A1GP World Cup of Motorsport™ and the team is aiming to try and achieve a second win of the season, two weeks after Olly Jarvis won the Feature Race in Zandvoort, The Netherlands.
Robbie Kerr; “Both the sprint and feature qualifying sessions went fairly well though we weren’t exactly where we wanted to be - unless I’m on pole position, I’m not hundred percent happy! We had a few issues earlier in the weekend with tyre graining but managed to fix this before qualifying. We will make a few minor adjustments ahead of tomorrow’s races and I’m looking forward to going out there and challenging for some serious points”.
Katie Clements, Team Principal; “Naturally pole position is always the aim, but the team and Robbie performed very well today and to line up 3rd for both races gives us an obvious opportunity for podium finishes – and perhaps the chance to win as we did in Zandvoort. The pit crew will have a lot of work to do tomorrow, but the team has already shown how well it is working so we are very much looking forward to both races. ”
