The A1GP Sydney, Australia began today, the seventh roundin the World Cup of Motorsport, which takes in 11 events around the globe. Parthiva Sureshwaren took part in his firstfull day of track action in an A1GP car at the Eastern Creekcircuit, 40km outside Sydney. The Chennai born racer willcomplete all sessions for A1 Team India this weekend, whileNarain Karthikeyan fulfils his F1 commitments.
Having spent only two 25-minute sessions in the carpreviously, Sureshwaren spent two hours of track time todaygetting used to the characteristics of the A1GP car and learning the EasternCreek circuit.
Speaking about his first day of full running, Sureshwaren said, “The wet runningwas really difficult this morning, I was still trying to get used to the car, as I’donly spent a short amount of time on track in Indonesia. Today I was justlearning the track and the car and not pushing totally, so tomorrow shouldhopefully be a better day. â€
Having raced in F3 and World Series, Sureshwaren is enjoying getting to grips with the A1GP car, but admits it is physically demanding, “This car is a lot morephysical than other cars I’ve raced before. The World Series car for example is easier on the arms than the A1GP car, only on the neck is it more difficult. Through the corners, the A1GP car isn’t as aggressive, as itdoesn’t have as much grip and slides through the corners. So I’m learning all these differentthings and trying to find the limit on this circuit at the same time, which is a bitdifficult. I should be able to work on that tomorrow and pick up the pace. â€
Speaking about the Eastern Creek circuit, Sureshwaren said, “The circuit is nice, it’s very flowing and there are a couple of really good corners. It might bea bit difficult to overtake during the race, but I think it should produce somegood track action. â€
A1 Team India Seatholder, Yohann Setna said, “The rain this morning wasn’tmuch of a help, as that delayedParthiva getting used to the car. We had a littleproblem in the second session, the car hit some debris which seemed to fall offthe German car, which created some severe vibrations and caused the steeringto go off-centre. I think that affected his times, and we didn’t see his true pace. But he’s consistently improving and we have time to work on a few things tomorrow in final practice. He’s doing a steady job, not trying anything tooambitious at the moment, which is good. â€
A1 Team India will be back on track for final practice at 11.00 local timetomorrow, before the four segment qualifying session gets underway at 14.15
